Marisa Busch
Senior Editor
Marisa Busch is a senior editor steering both news coverage and analysis of early education issues, childhood development, family engagement and post-COVID learning recovery.
She comes to The 74 with nearly 20 years of experience in the education space, including more than a decade in education journalism and research, and a decade working in schools as an educator and instructional coach. She most recently served as an Editorial Director at EdSurge, where she balanced the editing of award-winning features, narrative essays and op-eds with her broader strategic responsibilities.
Earlier in her career, she served as EdSurge's Research Project Manager and spent more than a decade in schools and classrooms serving students from early childhood through middle grades as an educator and instructional coach in various public, independent and charter schools across New York City. Her first teaching job as an early childhood educator serving infants and toddlers gave her insight into a field that offered great opportunity for impact, but which also had long standing challenges. Soon after, she pursued a path as a special education teacher and later, became an instructional coach, supporting teams across multiple schools through her work in professional learning and curriculum development.
Marisa says her career as an educator has shaped her work as an education editor, offering her a unique perspective on the educational system and the importance of elevating the voices and perspectives of the people who understand educational challenges and opportunities most closely.
